Standards

The Choice of a Standard will affect potential revenues and image. Choose Wisely.

CDM/JI, VER, Gold Standard, VER+, CCX, CCAR, and others.

The number of Standards for Carbon Offsets continues to grow. There is likely to be at least one standard that will apply to your Carbon Stream irrespective of your geographical location. With so many standards comes confusion in which ones you should be pursuing.

Dependent on the Standard chosen, you can expect anywhere from $1 to $30 per TCO2e. Generally speaking, the higher the price, the more rigorous (and costly) the project registration process. Furthermore, some standards have restricted geographic and/or technology coverage. For large projects in the voluntary markets, one also has to be mindful of the availability of potential buyers - some markets are thinly traded.

In some countries, the US for example, there are likely to be opportunities over the next few years in upcoming compliance markets. This raises questions of whether your project should wait until more certainty evolves, or whether the project should enroll in one of the voluntary standards and subsequently switch into a compliance market.

As part of our service offerings, we can analyze your potential project over its life and model projected cash flows and risks under different Standard and legislative scenarios.

This Clarity will enable you to make reasoned judgments in your decision making. You Gain Control.
